Postdoc position for studying biogenic VOC emissions in urban and peri-urban forests of São Paulo (Brazil)
Context: The postdoc position is part of the interdisciplinary French-Brazilian project BIOMASP+ (https://biomasp.uca.fr/). The BIOMASP+ project aims at investigating the role of the urban vegetation and the peri-urban Atlantic Forest on urban pollution in the São Paulo Metropolitan Area (MASP), southern Brazil. During campaigns, gaseous and particulate matter is monitored using state-of-the-art instrumentation at two sites equipped with measuring towers.
Your job: prepare instrumentation, measurement protocols, and shipping for the 2024 measurement campaign; perform in situ measurements of Biogenic Volatile Organic Compound (BVOC) emissions, particularly at canopy level using a Relaxed Eddy Accumulation system; participate in laboratory experiments on the effects of air pollution on the plants metabolism; carry out bibliographical research, data analysis and actively participate in conferences and publications in scientific journals.
Location: The postdoctoral position is based at the Center for Functional Ecology and Evolution (https://www.cefe.cnrs.fr/en/) in the FORECAST team. FORECAST explores the functioning and dynamics of forest ecosystems to better understand biosphere-atmosphere exchanges in response to climate change and the key processes that determine plant survival and geographic distribution (https://www.cefe.cnrs.fr/fr/recherche/ef/forecast).
About the position: Full-time position for one year (renewable) starting between October 2023 and February 2024 at the latest. Work location is Montpellier (South of France) with missions to Sao Paolo. The salary is according to the CNRS rules.
